woke up at 6 a.m., but my day didn’t actually start until 7:30 because I accidentally fell back asleep :<. The seasickness was still hitting hard, giving me a constant minor headache, but nothing could stop me from going whale‑watching with my Häagen‑Dazs ice cream on such a clear day.
Today, we had the chance to experience an expendable bathythermograph (XBT) deployment. It’s a device that creates sonar sound waves and measures the time it takes for them to reflect back, allowing us to map the ocean floor (yep, no need to dive all the way down to see it). After that, we spent some time playing around with the world map—yes, I really shouldn’t have skipped geography class in high school. We learned about warm and cold currents, where they flow, and how they move around the Earth. It was actually really interesting, even though I barely understood it. Sorry, Laura D ![]()
