Hi my name is Rylin, I’m a rising sophomore at The Ohio State University studying biology. I’m a first generation college student, so for me it can be difficult navigating university and all that I need to do to ensure success in the future. When and if I should apply to graduate school, how to get involved in undergraduate research, choosing a subfield that’s right for me. These are all questions my STEMSEAS mentors have been more than happy to help me answer. For that I’m extremely grateful. Today we discussed all thing graduate school. Now it was a bit difficult to pay attention due to my breakfast threatening to come up (rough seas) but what I did get out of it was truly invaluable. My mentors have been through graduate school or are still graduate students themselves so they can pull from their lived experiences to guide me and my peers. Now I feel much more confident moving forward in my education. But STEMSEAS isn’t all serious, we also played a round of Uno, pirates rules, in which I (of course) was the first to get Uno out.
