It is our third day at sea here on our lovely ship, the R.V. Endeavor. Today we are passing through Bermuda’s waters on our way to Barbados. The weather today was simply beautiful. This morning I spent some time working with Justin, one of the graduate students working with Dr. Montoya, to help him put together the frames for specialized marine cameras that will be used to study marine snow. It was hard work with the boat swaying to and fro, but by working as a team we made the whole process an enjoyable experience. After, I joined Dr. Steve Pekar and the rest of the STEMSEAS crew up on the 01 deck of the ship to have a nice lecture outside in the fresh air. We talked about deep sea sediments, turbidity flows, and some different kinds of small marine life including forams and diatoms. I had a wonderful dinner of crab cakes and scalloped potatoes prepared by our steward, Mike. This evening I plan to watch the sun set, and hopefully look at some stars if they are out tonight. I am loving this adventure!
