(9/29/24) Today marks our final full day aboard the vessel before we reach San Diego, We kicked off the morning with a CTD (Conductivity, Temperature, Depth) run, which is crucial for collecting data on water column characteristics. Following this, we conducted a box core sample collection ( box core #3), allowing us to analyze sediment layers and understand the seafloor environment better.

Once we gathered our samples, we performed tests to measure pH, nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia levels. Vital for assessing water quality. The analysis helps us understand the impacts and understand how Ph levels are affected by factors and how they affect marine life.

After our hands-on work in the lab, we had the pleasure of learning, as presenters Stefani, talks to us about the deep understanding of CTD’s and the importance behind them. As well, Keith, who shares his research findings with us. Their insights into oceanographic processes and marine information were both enlightening and inspiring to hear and learn from.

In a touching moment of almost departing and getting ready to say our goodbyes, the team comes together to craft thank-you cards for the whole crew, expressing our gratitude for their guidance and support throughout this expedition. This act of appreciation highlighted the strong sense of community we’ve built during our time at sea.
As the day wound down, we enjoyed a well-deserved dinner, sharing stories and having a great time and took time to relax by watching a community movie, creating a cozy atmosphere to unwind before our journey comes to an end
The adventure awaits!
Stay Tuned!
