Science has long been thought of as an exact subject – there either is or isn’t a correlation; there are no greys in a field so precise. Geosciences are the beautiful anomaly. Where other scientists see rigid lines, we visualize the flexibility in our Earth and apply it to our theories. New discoveries either further our current beliefs or provide a new perspective. I find this to be a spectacular metaphor for everyday life. Could it be that the answers are hidden in plain sight, and most are too oblivious, whether that be willfully or otherwise, to see it?
It is my theory that humanity perceives itself to be so strong, it is its own weakness. For what rational beings would bypass an easy answer for one that needs to be fought and struggled for? Rather than forcing a connection, it is my new goal to find those spots with leeway and make myself malleable to the world around us.
That has been my motto these past few days, and I truly believe that this has strengthened the bonds I have formed with my fellow peers. STEMSEAS has provided a rich soil full of any and all nutrients we could ever need. I for one cannot wait to see which direction the tide pulls us as we continue to bloom.
