Seeing the Milky Way was one of my wishes since I was a child, but I didn’t have an opportunity to achieve that wish until I participated in STEMSEAS. I decided to wake up on July 16 at 5:00 AM. Dr. Stephen Pekar was really nice because he encouraged me and volunteered to woke up with me to see it. He told me that I can see it only after the moon will go away and that was after 5:00 AM that night. Eventually, all of Dr. Pekar, Dr. Kraft, Iris and I decided to wake up for it. We went to the front of the ship and the sky was just spectacular. A very black sky that is full of amazing stars, much more that I have ever seen. After my eyes get used to the dark after about five minutes, I could see and it for the first time in my life!
Although it was a little bit faint because it was summer time (Milky way is best seen in winter) but I could see it. It was like a glowing line of clouds. After that we saw one of the most spectacular sunrises. Probably you can see a sunrise like this once a year. Kat also joined us in that time. It was a little bit cloudy, that made the sky very colorful. You could see red, orange, and purple color. Finally, I retured to my cabin at 6:15 to complete my sleep and woke up again at 8:30 AM for breakfast. I really had a great time. Thank you STEMSEAS!
