MarTech Croy Carlin
I am grateful to have met Croy. He was more than willing to help with anything on the ship and was always happy to do so. He was also the person I found who has the strongest joy of being out in the ocean. Upon asking, he was eager to provide me with valuable information on what it takes to reach the profession he is in. Croy was born in Connecticut and moved to Belgium for two years of his childhood. He then returned to Connecticut. During the summer of his senior year in high school he had his first sailing experience. He volunteered on the Albatross where he sorted through sea scallop for surveys. Croy then went to the University of Maine to study Marine Science. During his time in college he took a MATE (Marine Technology Advanced Education) internship which is one of few internships that correlate with the profession of a marine technician. He stayed in Maine for eight years where he built up his sea time by becoming a fishery observer and taking the position as Marine Tech on the Great Lakes. He has been working on the Oceanus as a Marine Tech for just over a year.
