Hi everyone!
This is Raul checking in for Day 9 aboard the R/V Sikuliaq and I will be going over today’s timeline! Which is also the last day of any new educational information we will be exposed to as our trip comes to an end.
We started off the morning with a unique cybersecurity training led by a Fortinet representative. It was insightful to learn about Fortinet’s more professional approach to keeping computer networks safe. Their software is designed to protect sensitive data and detect intrusive threats, which is important for all computer networks, but even more important for those at sea working with fewer resources.
After our training wrapped up, we had a couple of hours to unwind before diving into a more informal group discussion, one focused on getting creative with limited resources at sea. Although our own expedition has been relatively smooth, this conversation offered a look at the tougher side of marine research. Hearing real stories and strategies for dealing with unexpected challenges was eye opening, and a serious reminder of just how demanding life at sea can be.
To finish out the day, it was our turn, the STEMSEAS group’s presentation! We shared what our typical day looked like aboard the R/V Sikuliaq on our trip and reflected on the unforgettable experiences we’ve gained from this trip through a video.
