Hey there!
It’s Kayla and I’ll be taking over today! For our first weekend aboard, it was quite an exploratory and eventful one! Starting off bright and early, we got the amazing chance to get a tour of the bridge and captain’s cabin along with an informative tour learning about the water system on R/V Sikuliaq. The views from the bridge were so stunning and peaceful that I ended up going back to enjoy the sunset later that day. We were fortunate enough to learn about science data processing aboard the vessel as well! After touring these parts of the ship, we were then taken into the computer/electronics lab and were surrounded by plenty of cables, wires, switches, and screens.
Later on in the day, I suddenly realized that the ship had come to a stop. Curious, I went outside to see what had happened and there I saw a few members of the crew looking towards something floating in the water. It had appeared to look similar to a life raft from afar, however when the object moved closer to the vessel, it was simply trash. Still, it was an interesting mini side quest!
After some cyber presentations, I decided to spend some time in the vessel’s gym. A quick and simple workout was a great way to stay active before a delicious dinner! Everyday on R/V Sikuliaq is an experience in and of itself; I’m beyond excited to see what tomorrow brings!
