Being on STEMseas has given me the confidence I need going into the workforce after graduation. I received insight from the crew on the R/V Hugh Sharp about the various paths you can take to get into this field. Having a welcoming crew that is eager to share with us and answer our questions set the tone for the whole trip in a major way. There was plenty of time for chatting and coming up with questions to ask the crew. Being in close quarters with the same people for a week sometimes requires patience and mercy, but ultimately, I am sad to leave my new family.
I learned how to do A-frame winch signals from the senior marine technician, Christian. The food has been delicious each and every meal thanks to Hunter, the ship’s cook. The STEMseas program reignited my passion for learning and exploring the unknown.
