Hi there! My name is Kayla Garcia and I am currently a junior at Montclair State University. I’m a computer science major who loves testing my problem-solving skills, whether that’s through software and programming or hardware and building robots. Outside of academics, I enjoy staying active, exploring nature, and going to concerts! I am beyond excited and grateful to have the unique opportunity to research and explore with STEMSEAS as it will be my first time aboard a research vessel! With the exposure gained from this cybersecurity expedition, I’m confident that I’ll be able to apply these skills in my desired working field.
Hey! My name is Ryan Mark Genova and I am currently about to graduate with an Associate in Arts and Sciences from Bellevue College in Washington. Focused on computer science and statistical classes, I am learning additional software languages like python, SQL, and R. My goal is to become a data analyst or a cybersecurity analyst in the future. In my free time, I have a passion for creating things whether it is through photography/videography, playing music or just creating random things. I enjoy traveling, working out, playing volleyball, learning new skills, and doing random spontaneous things. I have always enjoyed being in the ocean surrounded by sea life and an open breeze. So I hope to combine my interests and am excited to learn a lot on my STEMSEAS expedition 🙂
Hello everyone! I’m RaeNeice Dunbar, originally from Brothers Road, Trinidad and Tobago, but I grew up in Houston, Texas. I’m 21 and a Junior at Penn State University Park, pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity Operations and Analytics with a focus on Geopolitics. I intern as a Production Specialist in the IST Learning Design office and serve as a learning assistant in our cybersecurity defense studio, which I enjoy!
I am also an IST Diplomat, representing the College of IST at various events. I joined in Fall 2024, and it’s helping me share my STEM experiences. I spent half of my sophomore year studying abroad in Christchurch, New Zealand, and I’m learning about cybersecurity in nuclear facilities while recently starting boxing at Lombard MMA. I’m excited about this opportunity! I’ve never been to Hawaii and find it culturally fascinating. Alaska is one of my favorite places since my family lives there, and I love the ocean, eager to see how my career connects with the maritime industry.
Hello, my name is Raul Cano, and I’m finishing my third year at Cal Poly Humboldt studying Software Engineering. I’m pursuing a career in security research, looking at how malware (harmful software) works and how to investigate it. I’m also interested in communicating that research to the public to better inform people about their privacy rights in today’s digital world.
Howdy! My name is Eirik Marquez, and I am an undergraduate student majoring in Cybersecurity with a minor in Computer Science at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. At TAMU-SA, I serve as President of the National Cybersecurity Student Association, a VICEROY Scholar, and conduct undergraduate research supported by the NSF S-STEM Scholarship. My research focuses on exploring how cybersecurity and artificial intelligence can enhance security measures within IoT critical infrastructure environments. I’m super excited to participate in the inaugural cohort of the Cyber STEMSEAS Program, exploring how cybersecurity intersects with maritime science and real-world scientific operations. Outside of school, I love exploring nature often hiking or rock climbing!
